Peterson played college football for the University of Oklahoma, where he was the first freshman to finish as a runner-up for the Heisman Trophy. He entered the 2007 NFL Draft and was selected seventh overall by the Minnesota Vikings. After multiple seasons with outstanding numbers, the Vikings signed Peterson on a seven-season, $96 million contract making him the highest-paid running back in NFL history. Unfortunately, that same season he tore his ACL and MCL and required surgery.
In 2014, Peterson was indicted on child abuse charges after he beat his four-year old son with a stick and was placed on the NFL’s Exempt/Commissioner’s Permission list and was ultimately suspended without pay for the remainder of the season. He was reinstated back to the League in 2015 after a lawsuit against the NFL, but struggled to regain his previous numbers. He went on to play for the New Orleans Saints, Arizona Cardinals, Washington Redskins, Detroit Lions, Tennessee Titans, and the Seattle Seahawks.
