Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma suffered a horrific injury to his face that required several stitches during a Ligue 1 showdown vs. Monaco on Wednesday.
The Italian stopper had blocked a shot from Monaco defender Wilfried Singo before the Ivorian attempted to jump over him. However, the move was ill-timed as it resulted in the latter’s boot being smashed into the keeper’s face.

Having already picked up a yellow, most thought a sending-off would be automatic. But the Ivory Coast defender was allowed to remain on the pitch.
French outlet L’Equipe reports that referee Francois Letexier thought Singo’s challenge was reckless but not inconsiderate.
According to the publication, the ref thought the defender did not act “with disregard to the danger to, or consequences for, an opponent” and didn’t “exceed the necessary use of force or endanger the safety of an opponent.”
PSG eventually won 4-2, but it came at great expense for Gianluigi Donnarumma.
