Cristiano Ronaldo was nearly the victim of what could have been a hefty drop-kick after Portugal lost 2-0 to Georgia on Wednesday.
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid superstar was saved by a security official after a fan jumped from the stands as part of an ill-advised plan that has probably left him with a broken limb.
Ronaldo and Portugal were surprisingly on the end of a Euro 24 defeat to Georgia that some fans simply couldn’t handle, although the nation qualified for the next round of the tournament.
The video below shows said fan jumping towards Ronaldo while he makes his way into the tunnel. Fortunately, the unsuspecting forward was shielded by a member of security, who caused the fan to take an unplanned fall as Ronaldo held up his hands as if to ask, “What are you doing, bro?”

“We all love a fan that recognizes the big stars and the big icons in their minds,” Portugal coach Roberto Martinez coach said after the game, per ESPN. “But you can understand it was a very, very difficult moment. If those intentions are wrong, the players are exposed and we need to be careful with that.”

Cristiano Ronaldo Has Had His Moments with Fans In The Tournament
Wednesday’s incident was not the first between Cristiano Ronaldo and an ambitious fan. A young supporter ran onto the field to take a selfie with CR7 during a previous game and was able to speed away from security thereafter.
Meanwhile, police have said that the fan from the latest encounter will not be charged with a crime as the attempt to assault the player was outside their jurisdiction. UEFA has since announced that additional safety measures will be implemented moving forward.
Portugal will play Slovenia in the Round of 16 on Monday, with Ronaldo looking to win his second European championship after a victorious Portuguese campaign in 2016.
