Alex Morgan is an absolute legend regarding the women’s soccer scene and the soccer scene in general. Her career accolades make her one of the most successful soccer players ever.
However, at 35, the veteran has decided to officially retire. Morgan made the announcement directly on Instagram in an Instagram video.
“This decision wasn’t easy, but at the beginning of 2024 I felt in my heart and soul that this was the last season that I would play soccer,” Morgan said. “Soccer has been a part of me for 30 years, and it was one of the first things that I ever loved. I gave everything to this sport and what I got in return was more than I could have ever dreamed of.”
Morgan will retire as one of the most decorated female athletes ever. She was twice named U.S. Soccer’s Female Athlete of the Year, four-time Concacaf Player of the Year, three-time finalist for FIFA World Player of the Year, three-time Olympian, and Olympic gold medal recipient.
Throughout her career playing for the United States Women’s National Team, she has scored the fifth most goals, 123 in 224 appearances, and has 53 assists.
Her final game will be Sunday when the San Diego Wave FC takes on the North Carolina Courage.

Alex Morgan Is Expecting Her Second Child
One factor that could play into Morgan’s retirement is that she is now expecting her second child.
She gave birth to her first daughter in 2020 with her husband and Major League Soccer player Servando Carrasco. Of course, though, it’s not as if she couldn’t have given birth to her second child and come back, but at 35-years-old father time is inevitable.
It seems as though Morgan is just ready for the next chapter of her life.
