The Women’s National soccer team has never been as low as they are right now.
The USWNT is no longer the top-ranked team in women’s international soccer. For the first time since 2017, the United States women’s national soccer team is not ranked No. 1 in the world.
The USWNT dropped all the way to No. 3 in FIFA’s world ranking after they were knocked out of the 2023 World Cup in the Round of 16.
The USWNT had never been ranked lower than No. 2 previously. The U.S. entered the World Cup having won the event back-to-back times, and the team had never finished worse than third since the event debuted in 1991.
As for who took the No. 1 spot from the United States, it was Sweden, the same team that knocked the USWNT out of the World Cup in the round of 16. England, the runner-up from this year’s tournament, remained fourth in the latest rankings.
Spain climbed from sixth to second by virtue of its World Cup triumph in Australia and New Zealand.

It was clear that Team USA was not the same dominant team in years past when they defeated Vietnam 3-0 in its first game. That margin of victory would’ve been so much higher in the past.
