While the Ukrainian soccer team goes into battle on the soccer field with a spot in the upcoming FIFA World Cup on the line, the people of their country are engaged in a much more serious, deadly battle back home.
With their country under siege from a relentless Russian military attack, the Ukrainian men’s national team took the field today in Glasgow, Scotland with heavy hearts. They know that they have an opportunity to bring some joy to their people during what has been a very difficult few months.
Prior to the match, the emotions of the players and their supporters in attendance was on full display, as they delivered a powerful rendition of the Ukrainian National Anthem at Hampden Park.
The players carried that spirited approach into the match too, as they’ve scored two goals in the first 50 minutes to take a commanding lead. The winner of this game will take on Wales on Sunday, with a spot in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar on the line.
