A soccer referee lost his life last weekend after being brutally beaten by “pseudo fans and players” during an amateur match played at the Toluca stadium in San Salvador.
63-year-old Jose Arnoldo Amaya tragically lost his life as a result of the incident, which occurred while he was refereeing an amateur match at the Toluca Stadium in Miramonte, according to Marca.
Amaya, who was a referee with 20 years of experience, made a decision to send off a player by showing him two yellow cards, which provoked an argument and, subsequently, his unfortunate beating. Amaya received blows that caused internal hemorrhaging and lost his life after being taken to the Zacamil Hospital.
The referee was beaten by the player, his teammates and their supporters.
The Salvadoran Football Federation (FESFUT) has released an official statement to confirm the death of referee Jose Arnoldo Amaya.
“As a Federation we repudiate all the acts of violence that are being generated in the different sports venues in the country,” read the statement.
