Lionel Mess’s Copa America final was bittersweet as Argentina won the tournament for the second consecutive time at the cost of an injury.
The Inter Miami star looked like he hurt his ankle in the 36th minute of Sunday night’s clash against Colombia after a collision with Santiago Arias. He was able to continue playing after treatment, though he was a few paces off.
He would limp off injured in the 66th minute and was shown crying his eyeballs out on the sideline while icing his right ankle.
The comments on the size of the swollen joint weren’t exaggerated, as photos have surfaced online showing just how big it was. You can check it out right below:

Lionel Messi Was All Smiles By The End Of The Game
The former Barcelona and PSG attacker was all smiles at the night’s end, however, with Lautaro Martinez coming on as a late substitute to score Argentina’s only goal in extra time.
“Messi had to leave because of that ankle problem but finally we were able to give him some joy,” winger Angel Di Maria said.
Argentina is now arguably the greatest team in men’s football history, having won the last two Copa America tournaments and the World Cup in back-to-back-to-back fashion.
Lionel Messi has been at the center of it all, though he could not remain on the pitch for the full go this time around.
His ankle is suspected to be sprained. He is not expected to return to the pitch for some time.
