Shocking details about the circumstances surrounding Hope Solo‘s DUI arrest have been revealed following her release.
The former USA soccer player was caught allegedly driving under the influence last month in North Carolina, and according to a report from the Winston-Salem Police Department, a passerby noticed Solo had been “passed out behind [the] wheel for over [one] hour” before her arrest.
According to the police report that was obtained by Us Weekly, Solo refused to submit to a field sobriety test. She was arrested for driving while impaired, resisting arrest, and child abuse. Her 2-year-old twins were in the car at the time.
Rich Nichols, Solo’s attorney, issued a statement last week stating the “story is more sympathetic than the initial charges suggest” and that Solo is looking forward to defending herself.
A hearing has been scheduled for June 28th.
The 40-year-old Solo has been in trouble with the law multiple over the years, which include troubling domestic violence allegations in 2014, and is accused of berating police officers during her husband Jerramy Stevens’ DUI arrest in 2015.

Solo was the goalkeeper of the US Women’s National Soccer Team from 2000-2016. Three years after her contract was terminated, the former goalkeeper told AP that she had no regrets about her career.
“I will tell you that I am really happy where I am in life, that I fulfilled everything that I wanted to fulfill on the field,” she said in May 2019. “If I would have retired without a World Cup trophy, I think I never would have been able to settle into my new lifestyle. But luckily we won that 2015 World Cup and I was able to win a couple of Golden Gloves, which was a personal goal of mine, and a couple of gold medals. I hold almost every goalkeeping record. I am not sure there is much more that I could have done.”
