Outside of the soccer community, not many likely knew who Alejandro Bedoya was. He changed that with his actions on Saturday night.
Bedoya, a veteran player for the Philadelphia Union, scored a goal in the opening minutes of his team’s game against D.C. United in Washington and he immediately ran over to grab a microphone on the sidelines and yelled out a message for U.S. Congress in the wake of this weekend’s mass shootings.
“Hey Congress, do something, now! End gun violence!” he said.
United States women’s national team star Megan Rapinoe, who was outspoken on numerous topics, was definitely a fan of what Bedoya did, so she reacted favorably on Twitter:
During a 24 hour period, there were 20 people killed in El Paso, Texas with numerous others injured by gunfire and then another nine people killed just hours later in Dayton, Ohio.
