An England fan has revealed a loophole that could make it so that the Three Lions could still win the World Cup, despite their quarter-final exit vs. defending champions France.
Les Bleus have since booked a spot in the finals and will face Lionel Messi and Argentina on Sunday.
As for England, all hope was lost after Harry Kane missed a late penalty against the champs. Sure, Marcus Rashford had a chance to tie things up at the death with a free kick, yet that was a much bigger ask, though he still came close to finding the back of the net.
It’s Not Quite Over Yet For England
There’s still a chance that England could be crowned World champions, though. But it would take an absolute miracle as several near-impossible things would need to happen in order for them to bring football back home.
A Twitter user going by the name of Adam Devlin made noted a loophole that would see England win the WC without playing in the final.
“Guys, it’s not all over yet. If Croatia and Morocco each get 4 players sent off today, the game is unable to be completed, the result is nul and void,” he wrote. “Run with me here… if the same happens in the final, the trophy goes to the quarter-finalist with the best disciplinary record!”

Another user pointed out that the above would still not be quite enough.
So there’s actually still a way. But it would take an absurd series of events to erase Kane’s shame.
To be fair, you can never tell with soccer. But normalcy is expected to prevail on Sunday, so one of two things is probably what’s going to happen. Either France goes on to successfully defend its championship, or Messi finally wins the trophy which has eluded him for all of his career – hitherto, of course.
