Lionel Messi and some of his Argentina teammates managed to avoid what could have been a disastrous incident during their World Cup celebration parade on Tuesday.
The PSG superstar was sat atop the team bus with Leandro Paredes, who seems to have been named for the occasion, Rodrigo DePaul, Agel Di Maria, and Nicolas Otamendi when they came pretty close to coming into contact with overhanging cables.
The five World Cup winners showed quick reflexes, having to duck under the wires as the bus sped through, with the driver seemingly unaware of the danger. Paredes’ wardrobe is down one cap, though.
Argentina beat France on penalties to dethrone the previous World Champions and establish themselves as soccer’s new Kings in what was one of the most exciting finals in the history of the game.
Messi scored seven goals in the tournament and will be relieved to be able to say he’s won it all during what has been a remarkable and illustrious career.
A festive crowd welcomed the champions back home in Buenos Aires on Tuesday morning, and the celebrations began straightaway. Thankfully, it wasn’t marred by the aforementioned cables.
