The internet can be a brutal place. And Dutch forward Lineth Beerensteyn is finding that out after throwing up a stinker against Spain in the Women’s World Cup.
Of course, only one team can win the tournament so it would have been quiet had the Dutch simply been eliminated. But Lineth is getting trolled online because she mocked the USWNT after they went out.
Holland lost to the U.S. in the 2019 finals and their group-stage match this year was one most fans were looking forward to. The result was a 1-1 draw and, while the Americans secured progress to the next round, they were sent home by Sweden after a failed penalty shootout.
“From the first moment I heard they were out, I was just like, ‘Yes! Bye!,” Beerensteyn, said after watching the U.S. crash out of the competition. “From the start of the tournament, they had really big mouths and were already talking about the final.
“I was thinking you first have to show it on the pitch before you talk.”

The quotes haven’t aged well as Lineth is also on her way home after missing multiple clear chances against the Spaniards on Thursday.
The Netherlands ended up losing 2-1 in extra time and American fans couldn’t wait to start the trolling. Even Sydney Leroux, a former USWNT star, chimed in.
“One thing we’ve learned is wait to talk S until after you’re on the podium with a gold medal because now…you’re bye too,” she said.
