Jenni Hermoso has had the support of the world after Luis Rubiales, the country’s soccer federation president, kissed her during the medals ceremony.
Rubiales has been under fire for his actions because Jenni made it clear that she did not consent to that kiss.
Despite what she said, he still thinks the kiss was consensual and he refuses to step down from his position.
“Do you think this [incident] is so serious that I should go, after the best management in the history of Spanish football? Let me tell you: I’m not going to resign. I’m not going to resign. I’m not going to resign,” Rubiales said. “I’ve come under a lot of pressure. Perhaps somebody will look to remove me on Monday. But we live in a country of laws. Is a consensual kiss enough to remove me? I’m going to fight until the end. I hope the law is followed, and that as there’s no reason to [remove me], it won’t happen.”
Hermoso made it very clear in her released statement that she wanted nothing to do with being kissed by the president.
“I want to clarify that, as seen in the images, at no time did I consent to the kiss he gave me and, of course, in no case did I try to lift the president,” Hermoso said. “I do not tolerate my word being doubted, much less making up words I have not said.”

Spain’s government has started legal proceedings to suspend Rubiales.
In the meantime, all 23 players of Spain’s World Cup-winning squad have said they will not play for their country again as long as Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) president Luis Rubiales remains in charge.
Hermoso and her teammates called for “real change to help the national team to keep growing, to be able to bring this great success to the generations to come” and said they would not play for Spain while “the current management” remains at the RFEF.
Rubiales had been widely expected to announce his resignation Friday, but he decided to justify his actions instead. At this point, it’s not a matter of if, but when he loses his job.
