Former United States goalkeeper Hope Solo has requested her induction into the National Soccer Hall of Fame be postponed while she works on her personal issues. Solo announced she will be entering an in-patient alcohol treatment program.
The 40-year-old was arrested in March after she was reportedly found passed out in a car with her twin sons inside. It’s unclear if the two children were hers, but Solo does have 2-year-old twins with her husband, former NFL player Jerramy Stevens.
Solo asked the National Soccer Hall of Fame to postpone her induction ceremony by a year.
“I have contacted the Hall of Fame and respectfully requested a postponement of my Hall of Fame induction ceremony to 2023. I will be voluntarily entering an in-patient alcohol treatment program to address my challenges with alcohol. At this time, my energies and focus are totally directed to my health, healing and taking care of my family. I want to thank the Hall of Fame for their support and for understanding my decision,” Solo said in her statement.
The incident was the latest legal one for Solo in recent years. She was arrested in 2014 after allegedly attacking two family members. The charges were dropped, and then fully dropped in 2018 after prosecutors had them reinstated.
Solo was the goalkeeper of the US Women’s National Soccer Team from 2000-2016. She helped the team win two Olympic gold medals and the 2015 Women’s World Cup.
