Former Liverpool and Bayern Munich star Sadio Mane has raised some eyebrows and is taking heat after marrying his “long-term” girlfriend.
Typically, marrying a long-term partner is considered admirable. However, in Mane’s case, his new bride is said to be 19 years old.
According to the Daily Mail, the 31-year-old forward tied the knot in a private ceremony in his native Senegal on January 7, marrying Aisha Tamba.
“Ex-Liverpool striker Sadio Mane has married his ’19-year-old long-term girlfriend’ Aisha Tamba in a private ceremony in his home country of Senegal,” the report reads, having initially claimed she was 18. “The wedding is believed to have taken place on January 7 in Keur Massar, an area in the capital city of Dakar, just six days before the start of the Africa Cup of Nations on January 13.”
According to the publication, the pair have been together for a while and Mane paid for her to get through school.
“Reports claim Aisha ‘was long intended for the 31-year-old footballer since her teenage years’ though it is not known exactly how long they have been dating. The legal age of consent in Senegal is 16 years of age,” the Mail adds. “It was also reported that the former Liverpool star had taken care of her bills when she was in school.”

Of course, Mane has done nothing wrong by marrying a 19-year-old. But there are some questions over whether they were together before she was of legal age.
“That math is not quite mathing,” one user wrote on X.
“Wait what. 18 year old???? Long term girlfriend?????? But he’s 31????????,” another shared.
Other users have come to Mane’s defense, with one claiming that Aisha is actually 26.
Mane now plays in the Saudi Pro League with Al Nassr after spending six years at Liverpool and one season at Bayern Munich.
