Al-Wakra club player Othman Coulibaly suddenly fell down to the ground in his team’s match against Al-Rayyan as medical personnel moved in to figure out what was wrong.
Refs ended the match at 41 minutes after Coulibaly reportedly could be seen suffering from a heart attack. Footage of the event shows the 32-year-old twitching and completely unconscious.
He was given medical aid by the health workers present at the stadium and later rushed to the hospital.
“We wish safety of Al Wakra club player Othman Coulibaly.. with our prayers for a speedy recovery and a speedy return,” Qatar Football Federation said.
Qatar Stars League later confirmed that the Mali football star had suffered a heart attack during the match before being rushed to hospital, where he is “receiving necessary medical care and attention”.
“The Qatar Stars League Foundation wishes a speedy recovery to the player, and we would like to thank the medical staff of the two teams, the paramedics and the doctors for their great efforts during these events.”
