Tragedy has struck the soccer world as Argentinian star Diego Maradona passed away this morning as a result of a heart attack.
Maradona had just been released from the hospital two weeks earlier after having surgery for a blood clot in his brain. According to his lawyer, Diego passed away while at his home.
Maradona, who is best remembered for his famous “Hand of God” goal against England in the quarterfinals of the 1986 World Cup.
He finished his international soccer career with 34 goals in 91 matches, including 17 goals in 46 competitive contests. He also led Argentina to the ’86 World Cup title, and earned the FIFA World Cup Golden Ball award that same year. He was also named the FIFA players of the century in 2000, and his other goal against England in the 1986 quarterfinal was named the “FIFA Goal Of The Century” in 2002.
