Alex Morgan has rejoined the United States Women’s National Team ahead of this month’s CONCACAF Gold Cup.
The forward was not part of the original roster but has been brought on as a replacement for Mia Fishel following the latter suffering an ACL injury during training on Monday. Morgan won’t be wearing her No. 13 jersey, however, given the last-minute change, and has taken to social media to share her new number.
Olivia Moultrie is using No. 13, so Morgan is rocking the No. 7.
“Yes, this feels as weird as it looks 🤷♀️ LFG,” she wrote as the caption to an Instagram photo showing her new jersey hanging from a locker.
Meanwhile, USWNT head coach Twila Kilgore has issued a statement prompted by the change, lamenting over Fishel’s untimely injury.
“I’m gutted for Mia, and I know the team and the entire staff is as well,” she said. “She’s been very effective in camp and has worked hard to make an impact. Since she’s been getting call-ups to the National Team, she’s shown a tremendous growth mindset, a desire to absorb information and has been a total team player. I know she’ll come back strong and hopefully be in the mix for the next World Cup.
“As we start this tournament, we’re fortunate to be able to add a player like Alex to the roster. Her accomplishments speak for themselves, she’s been training extremely hard with the Wave in preseason, and I know she’ll be more than ready to contribute in this tournament.”
