Even a gold medal isn’t enough to earn Italian swimmer Thomas Ceccon a nce place to rest his head at the Paris Olympics.
A viral video is circulating on the internet, showing Ceccon taking a nap in a park outside the Olympic Village, where he had aired complaints about the conditions.
Saudi rower Husein Alireza posted a photo of Ceccon fast asleep on a white towel under a tree over the weekend, and he tagged the location as inside the Olympic Village.
The Italian swimmer, who won gold in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 52.00 seconds, was apparently escaping the conditions inside the Olympic Village, where he complained about a lack of air conditioning.
“There is no air conditioning in the village, it’s hot, the food is bad,” Ceccon said earlier in the week. “Many athletes move for this reason: it’s not an alibi or excuse, it’s the reality of what perhaps not everyone knows.”
Thomas Ceccon added context to the viral video, saying he usually sleeps in the afternoon when he is at home but was struggling to find rest in the Olympic Village.

“Usually, when I’m at home, I always sleep in the afternoon: here I really struggle between the heat and the noise,” said Cecoon as quoted by the Sun.
Ceccon, who has been dubbed the “hottest swimmer” at the Paris Olympics, won two medals at the games this year, including bronze in the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay.
Aside from Ceccon, tennis star Coco Gauff also complained about the conditions inside the Olympic village, which caused the entire US tennis team to leave the village for alternate lodging elsewhere.
