Team USA’s basketball roster is always packed with NBA stars, but when it comes to legends on the international stage, Kevin Durant stands out. Among this year’s USA stars, only Durant has won three Olympic gold medals. Coach Mike Krzyzewski, known as Coach K, firmly believes Durant is Team USA’s greatest ever player.
During a recent chat with Jim Rome, Coach K explained why Durant deserves the title of Team USA’s GOAT.
“To begin with, Durant has won three gold medals, which is more than any other American player except Carmelo Anthony, and is the all-time leading scorer in Olympic history. In addition, he leads the league on average, with Michael Jordan coming in second. Above all, Coach K oversaw the ‘Redeem Team,'” K said.
After getting snubbed initially, KD showed dominance on the court during Team USA’s Paris Olympic opener. Hence, Coach K also put forward the Phoenix Suns star’s consistent performance despite the age.
“I think he is because of longevity and accomplishment. Again, it’s unique, but the number of points he has scored, he has scored a lot more than anyone else,” K added.

“Kevin Durant is arguably the greatest basketball player in the history of the Olympics. Not just Team USA. The entire history of the Olympics,” the report read.
“He was on typically stacked American teams for each of those runs, led all three of them in scoring, and won three gold medals,” Bailey added.
Meanwhile, Team USA registered their second consecutive win in the Olympics. After a comfortable win over Serbia on July 28, Kevin Durant and Co. showed another dominance performance and claimed victory against South Sudan to top Group C.
