Despite not stepping foot on the hardwood, Jaylen Brown has been the center of attention in numerous news publications for the last few days. The controversy began after Kawhi Leonard’s exit from the USAB Team. The Celtics star was hoping to reunite with his national teammates as Kawhi’s replacement. However, management called his teammate, Derrick White, to join the roster for the Paris Olympics 2024. As the news became official, the Finals MVP confessed that he had already anticipated it.
“I wasn’t surprised,” Brown admitted to The Athletic’s Jared Weiss on hearing about White. The 27-year-old further added, “But my reaction was that I was happy for D White. It’s dope to have so much of our guys on there, so I was happy for those guys. But I wasn’t surprised.”
Team USA selected Celtics’ Jayson Tatum, Jrue Holiday, and White to represent the team in the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, to everyone’s surprise, they left out one of the Celtics’ most impactful players, Brown. Though no one saw that coming, the swingman had speculated it.
Jaylen Brown Continues to Accuse Nike Over His USAB Snub
When Brown heard reports that his teammate White was a perfect fit for Kawhi’s role, he openly questioned Nike. The NBA champion believed his issues with the brand were a reason for his not being selected.
The team’s managing director, Grant Hill, cleared the air but Brown was unconvinced. When asked whether he still believes that brand influenced the decision, Brown stated, “I do for sure. There will be more stuff to come with that. As of now, I’m not gonna comment on it.”
