Usain Bolt’s injury Aside, The Match Was A Success
While Usain Bolt sustained an injury that would have ended his career had he still been competing, the charity affair was a resounding success.
The Soccer Aid match held for UNICEF raised over $19 million, bringing the total raised since the match was first introduced in 2006 to over $127 million.
The initiative, set up by singer Robbie Williams, “brings the nation together to help children worldwide have the best possible start in life,” according to its website.
“Every ticket bought, every donation made, every roar from the crowd has helped this year’s amount hit a record fundraising milestone of over £106m for children worldwide since UK ambassador Robbie Williams created Soccer Aid in 2006,” the site announced after the match.
The Soccer Aid event is touted as the biggest celebrity soccer match in the world featuring professional and celebrity players.
England won Sunday’s game 6-3.
