After winning all their tuneup games and dominating the group stage of the Paris Olympics, Team USA is now gearing up to secure a spot in the semifinals with a crucial game against Brazil. The Americans have shown their prowess on the court, but head coach Steve Kerr is keenly aware of the challenges that lie ahead.
Kerr shared his concerns ahead of the showdown, stating Brazil’s strengths and the preparations needed to face them.
“They’re very physical. I think they’re the No. 1 offensive rebounding team in the tournament. They made 17 3s against Japan. So they’ve got a lot of really good shooters,” Kerr said.
Despite LeBron James and his teammates enjoying a winning streak, Kerr is not taking Brazil lightly. The Brazilians advanced to the quarterfinals as a third-place team after a crucial victory over Japan in their final group game. Kerr’s respect for their capabilities is clear.
“They just play hard, and they compete. We have to be ready for their physicality and their shooting. We need to be on edge and ready for them,” Kerr added.

“Our guys enjoyed their time here. I think we achieved what we wanted, winning all three games and securing first place,” Kerr said.
The head coach acknowledged that while the team has performed well, there is still room for improvement as the tournament progresses.
“We know we need to play better. That’s part of this tournament—it gets tougher as the final stages approach. Our goal is just to strive to be better in each game. We will have a week off, and then one week of sprinting, three games. We’ll see how we do,” Kerr added.
The next challenge for Team USA is a matchup against Brazil, scheduled for Tuesday, August 6, at 3:30 p.m. ET.
