As the COVID-19 body count continues to rise around the world, there is still a large segment of Americans who not only believe this pandemic is overblown, they take serious pride in defying basic safety protocols on the pretense of protecting freedoms.
You can now add Kerri Walsh Jennings to that list.
The groundbreaking beach volleyball player and three-time Olympic gold medalist recently took to Instagram and bragged about not wearing a mask while shopping.
“I read a quote the other day that shook me – – THIS HAS NOT BEEN ENFORCED, IT’S BEEN CONSENTED TO,” she wrote.
“I had a little exercise in being brave yesterday & I’m still a bit edgy about it. I went shopping without a mask on.”
Walsh Jennings faced backlash from fans for her comments, which led her to apologize in her next post as she called for a truce.

“To those who are open to hearing where I am coming from, I appreciate your openness and civility. To those in agreement, I appreciate you expressing your views,” she wrote.
“To those calling me dumb, selfish, privileged, bigoted, and racist and telling me that ‘you are better than this,’ I fully acknowledge that addressing such an emotional, layered, nuanced and polarizing topic on social media was not the smartest thing.”
As of Tuesday, the U.S. claimed 6.3 million of the world’s 27.4 million confirmed COVID-19 cases and 189,000 of the 894,000 global deaths attributed to the pandemic.
