In a stunning display of skill and teamwork, Team USA secured their third consecutive victory in the 2024 Paris Olympics. The American men’s basketball team achieved a decisive 104-83 win over Puerto Rico, much to the delight of fans. However, the highlight of the victory was the extraordinary achievement of NBA superstar Kevin Durant. The two-time NBA Champion, who was recently praised by former Team USA’s coach, cemented his place in history by becoming Team USA’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder, surpassing Carmelo Anthony’s records.
Prior to this game, Durant had already established himself as the best scorer in USA’s men’s Olympic basketball history, scoring 483 points out of 25 games. The 14-time NBA All-Star further solidified his legacy in the matchup against Puerto Rico by surpassing Anthony’s 125-rebound mark.
Kevin Durant missed all five pre-Olympic exhibition games due to a lingering calf injury, but he later recovered and played in the first game against Serbia. Durant has been a dominant player for Team USA, scoring 23 points in the first game, 14 points with three assists and two rebounds in the second game, and 11 points with three assists and four rebounds in the third game.
Kevin Durant Addresses Exclusion from Team USA’s Starting Lineup
Since the start of the 2024 Olympics, Team USA’s coach, Steve Kerr, has been under constant scrutiny from fans and analysts due to his decisions. He was recently ridiculed for benching Jayson Tatum in the first game. However, during a recent interview with Brian Windhorst of ESPN, Kevin Durant spoke out about not being included in the starting lineup.
“It’s basketball, it really doesn’t matter who starts. It’s about really who finished the game, who put their impact on the game while they’re in the game. So I just try to do my best to impact it any way I can.” Durant said as per Brian Windhorst of ESPN.
Durant has won three Olympic gold medals, and based on his recent performances, it’s evident that he is well-prepared to win a fourth.
