Team USA has a phenomenal roster for the Paris 2024 Olympics, which includes NBA stars like LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and others. However, they often pop up in the headlines for not picking other potential eligible players. Former NBA champion Dwight Howard also pointed out how Jaylen Brown and Kyrie Irving’s absence from the Team USA roster surprised him.
Howard knows the value of an Olympic gold medal, having won one himself with the USAB in 2008. Therefore, he was aware of the talents who could fit into the team that visited Las Vegas. So the 38-year-old took to X (FKA Twitter) to write, “No Jaylen brown or Kyrie on team USA is crazy”.
Kyrie has proven himself with the Mavericks, leading them to the NBA Finals after 13 years. The guard averaged 25.6 points, 5.2 assists, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.3 steals in the regular season even after missing a chunk of games due to injury.
While Brown had a remarkable season with the Celtics, winning the championship title and being named Finals MVP, the swingman contributed 23.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per regular campaign game. So, Howard was correct in bringing the names of certainly deserving candidates.
Kyrie has been missing his opportunities to represent the nation since his social media post about an antisemitic film. On the flip side, there has been a lot of drama surrounding Brown.
Former NBA Star Blames Nike for Jaylen Brown Snub
Following Kawhi Leonard’s exit from the tournament, the USA Team has decided to settle matters with Derrick White as his replacement. However, his teammates’ selection in the squad disappointed Jaylen Brown, who raised fingers at Nike for snatching the opportunity from him.

Although the USAB’s managing director, Grant Hill, has clarified the matter, ex-Celtics player turned activist Enes Freedom extended his support for Brown. He claimed via an X post that the sneaker brand is “Corrupt” and “operates like a mafia.” The 32-year-old further stated in his post, “If you go against their agenda, they will find a way to silence you.”
Freedom also shared the post in which Brown called out the brand for its remark on Kyrie Irving’s controversy. As of now, the national team won its first exhibition game against Canada and will reportedly add White to its squad for the rest of the tournament.
