Team USA is often regarded as the most successful team in international competitions. The American men’s basketball team completed their pre-Olympic exhibition games with a flawless 5-0 record. However, they faced tough competition in their last two games against South Sudan and Germany. In a close match against South Sudan, Team USA managed to secure a 101-100 victory, with LeBron James scoring 25 points, narrowly avoiding a loss. Nevertheless, the team’s performance drew criticism from former NBA player Charles Barkley, who pointed out their struggles in the last two games.
“It puts me in a bad mood when they compare the Dream Team (1992) to this current team… I hope that after seeing these results there are no doubts about who is the best team, all our victories were by more than 30 points, without asking for a single timeout.” Barkley said via @Hoopmixonly/X.
The 1992 Dream Team that Barkley mentioned was composed of several legendary players, including Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Patrick Ewing, David Robinson, and Charles Barkley. The team is one of the most praised teams in the history of sports.
Svetislav Pesic: Team USA 2024 Surpasses the Legendary Dream Team of ’92
However, a former NBA player thinks just the opposite of Barkley. During last month’s interview, Serbian professional basketball coach Svetislav Pesic mentioned that Team USA from 2024 is better than the Dream Team from 1992.
“This American team is better than the original Dream Team from 1992. I was there with the German team, and then we thought there were no better players than these. This team that will appear in Paris will be stronger than the Dream Team, with the fact that not everyone will prepare just for them like not everyone was prepared just for the team in 1992.” Pesic said (Via Mozzart Sport).
Kawhi Leonard, who was initially chosen for the Team USA roster, has been replaced by Derrick White instead of 2024 NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown. However, a former NBA player revealed in a recent interview how Nike influenced Jaylen Brown’s exclusion from Team USA.
