Athletes who would participate in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics have been assured that their cardboard beds won’t collapse while engaging in sexual activities, according to Daily Mail.
“Tokyo 2020 has styled itself as the most eco-friendly Games in history. In keeping with the theme, organisers will award medals made out of recycled phones and athletes will be bedding down on cardboard frames.
‘Great gesture … until the athletes finish their said events and the 1000’s of condoms handed out all over the village are put to use,’ said Australian basketball player Andrew Bogut, warning organisers about the destruction awaiting the beds after the athletes finish competing.
Manufacturer Airweave said the beds are nowhere near as flimsy as Andrew thinks. They confirmed the frame can withstand up to 200kg, more than enough weight for two people under the covers.
‘We’ve conducted experiments, like dropping weights on top of the beds,’ the Airweave spokesperson said.
‘As long as they stick to just two people in the bed, they should be strong enough to support the load.’
Athletes indulging in raunchy behavior has been well documented over the years.
It was during the 2016 Rio Olympics when condom companies reported giving out 450,000 condoms over the 17-day event, averaging 42 per contestant.

‘We prefer not to destroy things we build but continue to use them,’ said Takashi Kitajima, general manager of the Tokyo 2020 athletes’ village.
‘This is a major element for providing sustainability,’ he said when promising an eco-friendly event.
