The Florida Panthers are two wins away from a Stanley Cup victory over the Edmonton Oilers, but Canadian air traffic control made a funny attempt to delay what seems like the inevitable at this point.
The Panthers had to deal with some harsh weather, making their flight to The Great North difficult. And Canadian ATC couldn’t help but mess with the pilot, telling him there was another issue while he was preparing to land.
Florida took a 2-0 lead over Edmonton on Monday, with the teams scheduled to meet again for Game 3 this Thursday.
The Oilers returned home on Tuesday, but the series leaders took an extra day to rest before following them, which was a strange decision as Florida had been preparing for a massive rainstorm for about a week.
As a result, their 1 PM flight was delayed for three hours.
Air Traffic Control Had Some Fun With The Florida Panthers’ Flight Before It Landed
It appears someone in the control tower at the Edmonton International Airport knew the Florida Panthers were on the Delta charter flight and decided to mess with the pilot, telling him he had “a two-hour hold for you or whatever it would take for you to be low enough on fuel that you’ll have to divert from Edmonton.”

The joke, unfortunately, was lost on the pilot, as he said it was against his better judgment when he was asked to consult with the passengers before getting clearance to land.

Jokers in high places, yes?
In any case, the Panthers will have an opportunity to take a 3-0 lead when they play the Oilers tonight. Another win would all but wrap up the series.
