A blockbuster trade proposal has the Chicago Blackhawks dealing former Hart Trophy winner Taylor Hall to an Eastern Conference heavyweight in a move that could drastically impact the Stanley Cup race in 2025.
The Blackhawks are in the midst of a long-term rebuild and figure to be one of the top sellers leading up to the 2025 NHL trade deadline. Taylor Hall, entering the final year of his contract, is a strong candidate to get dealt if the ‘Hawks are out of a playoff spot come trade deadline season.
A user at PuckPedia proposed a blockbuster trade idea in which Chicago would trade Hall to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a 2025 second-round pick. In this proposal, the Blackhawks would retain $3 million of Hall’s $6 million cap hit.
Last year, Chicago acquired Hall and fellow forward Nick Foligno from the Boston Bruins in a cap-dumping move. Unfortunately, Hall was limited to 10 games in 2023-24 due to a season-ending knee injury that required surgery.
Hall hasn’t come close to regaining the 39-goal, 93-point season he put up with New Jersey in his Hart Trophy-winning 2017-18 campaign. But he’s always been a safe bet for 20-plus goals and 50-plus points, even though the 2010 first overall pick has rarely played with elite centers during his career.

In 832 career NHL games, Taylor Hall has 266 goals and 697 points. He has scored 20-plus goals seven times and the 50-point mark eight times.
Taylor Hall Would Fit Perfectly On The Maple Leafs
The cap-strapped Maple Leafs lost a quality winger in Tyler Bertuzzi, who signed with Chicago in free agency. Elite centers like Matthews always maximize the production of their linemates, and a player like Hall could enjoy a career year with the new Toronto captain feeding him the puck.
Hall should be motivated to play for a contender at this phase of his career, and he just might be the final piece for Toronto to get over the hump in a tough Western Conference.
