The Las Vegas Golden Knights are this year’s Stanley Cup winners after closing their series with the Florida Panthers out in five games on Tuesday night. But the event could have been marred by tragedy as a man had threatened to open fire at the T-Mobile Arena in Vegas prior to the contest.
According to KLAS, Las Vegas Metro Police arrested an individual at a business place after he made vocal threats to commit a mass shooting at said venue.
The man, who has since been identified as 33-year-old Matthew DeSavio, had also made threats on social media, referencing 2017’s Mandalay Bay mass shooting that left 60 people dead and around 413 injured.
“I’m coming for you guys tonight and I hope you get every [expletive] police officer in Vegas Golden Knights there to defend you! Hope Sin City is ready for the Mandalay Bay massacre part duex [sic],” he said in one of his posts.
DeSavio is said to be facing charges of stalking, making a false threat regarding an act of terrorism, aggravated stalking, and violating a temporary protection order based on his threats ahead of Tuesday’s Stanley Cup Final game.
Such threats should always be taken seriously. Who knows how things could have turned out had the police not intervened?
