Snoop Dogg has announced that he has joined a group looking to purchase a major sports team.
The rapper announced as much via an Instagram post on Monday, revealing he is part of a bidding group hoping to buy the Ottawa Senators. The consortium is headed by Neko Sparks, a businessman based in Los Angeles who would become the NHL’s first Black controlling owner should he succeed in the takeover.
“I’m looking forward to being a part of that ownership team,” Snoop wrote via the aforementioned platform. “I wanna bring hockey to our community.”
Adidas exec Daniel Cherry is also part of the group, which is the most racially diverse bidding crew.
Front Office Sports reports that more celebrity names could be unveiled before the bidding deadline on May 15.
Other bidders include actor Ryan Reynolds, who is also the owner of the soccer club Wrexham FC in Wales, and Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadivé.

While he’s a regular at NFL and NBA games, Snoop Dogg is very familiar with hockey, having called part of a game between the Los Angeles Kings and the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2019. He also filmed a series for the NHL before the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2018.
Eugene Melnyk bought the Senators in 2003 for $92 million. His family put it up for sale in November 2022 following his death in March of the same year.
