Preseason games don’t mean anything, but don’t tell that to Pittsburgh Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby.
During an exhibition game against the Buffalo Sabres on Friday night, the two-time MVP and three-time Stanley Cup champion showed some playoff-level intensity when he decided to drop the gloves with Peyton Krebs.
Crosby wasn’t impressed with a hit that Krebs delivered on Penguins star defenseman Kris Letang. Rather than stand by and watch, Sid took matters into his own hands, defending his longtime teammate by delivering some retributive justice on the Sabres forward’s face.
While seeing a star of Crosby’s caliber drop the gloves and fight is a rarity in the NHL, it’s not exactly something we’ve never seen before.
Surprisingly enough, this if Crosby’s ninth documented fight at the NFL level, according to HockeyFights.com. It has been a while for the 36-year-old future Hall of Famer, as his last bout took place back in October of 2019, when he dropped the gloves with Pierre-Luc Dubois.
