The NHL has its fair share of loyal fanbases and its fair share of bandwagon fans. Many of these NHL fanbases are loyal to the team they cheer for, and it’s quite possibly to a fault. Others just cheer on the team and stop supporting when they’re no longer in the upper echelon.
This list will give you our rankings of the most annoying NHL fanbases from WORST to FIRST.
Is your team a part of the best NHL fanbase on this list?
32. Arizona Coyotes
If we’re looking at this realistically, the Coyotes don’t necessarily have fans to rank. They are currently playing in a college arena that holds 5,000 players. That’s why they rank so low on this list.
31. Winnipeg Jets
The Jets have been struggling to keep their franchise alive as their fans refuse to buy tickets to see them play live. The Jets are currently a top-10 team in the NHL. C’mon Jets fans, you are in jeopardy of losing your team again.
30. Florida Panthers

Florida’s fan base kind of just came out of nowhere last when the team went on a historic run all the way to the Cup finals. It kind of seems like the only team fans really cheer for in Florida is the LIghting. There are still many more annoying fan bases out there.
29. Buffalo Sabres
Sabres fans constantly have so much hope only for the team to disappoint over and over again. They are quite possibly one of the most loyal fanbases in the NHL. Let’s take it easy on this poor group.
28. Vancouver Canucks
2011 was a long time ago and until this year, Canucks fans haven’t been proud enough to constantly brag about their franchise.
27. Chicago Blackhawks
Chicago has suffered through a few years of mediocrity at this point and maybe for a couple more, but with Connor Bedard in the fold, let’s just say they could have a number 10 spot on this list in no time.

26. New York Islanders
A bunch of first-round exits from aging core players don’t give their NHL fanbase anything to be too passionate about.
25. Columbus Blue Jackets
Maybe these fans would have been higher on this list if Gaudreau’s contract was worth the signing. Up until this point, it’s safe to say we haven’t heard much from the Blue Jackets faithful.
24. Los Angeles Kings
Kings fans haven’t had much to be excited about since the early 2010’s and the team is still competitive, so credit where it’s due Kings fans.
23. Anaheim Ducks
Many Anaheim fans don’t have too much to cheer for right now, especially since the departure of franchise stars like Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf. However, they may be slowly climbing this list with their complaints about Leo Carlsson’s management.
22. Detroit Red Wings
Detroit fans are so low on this list because we haven’t heard much since the end of their 25-season playoff streak in 2016, but since Kane joined the team, we have a feeling this team’s fanbase could be very annoying to be around.
21. Seattle Kraken
Seattle is the newest franchise in the league, but don’t get it twisted, they are pretty annoying after making the playoffs in just their second NHL season.
20. St. Louis Blues
St. Louis sits here because of their 2019 Stanley Cup win. Fans are constantly claiming Jordan Binnington is a starting-caliber goaltender, but let’s be honest, does the goon goalie deserve the praise he gets?
19. Washington Capitals
With Ovi’s career slowly winding down, this fanbase may be in for a tough ride shortly, but for now, they’re waiting for Gretzky’s goal record to be broken. It’s something we can all get behind.
18. San Jose Sharks
The Sharks are in quite possibly the toughest period they’ve ever seen in their franchise history apart from their humble beginnings. The only reason their NHL fanbase make this spot is because they’re way too excited for Macklin Celebrini.
17. Tampa Bay Lightning
Tampa has been a great team for the past few seasons having won 2 Stanley Cups in the past 5 seasons to prove it. The reason their fans aren’t higher on this list is that you don’t see them get all in your face about it.

16. Dallas Stars
Dallas’ squad has a nice mixture of up-and-coming youngsters as well as players like Jamie Benn and Joe Pavelski. Even though they have a great team, you don’t hear the fanbase bragging all the time, which is why they sit middle of the pack.
15. Calgary Flames
The Flames were supposed to do big things last season, at least according to the “C Of Red”. Nothing has come to fruition and Flames fans haven’t had a lot to say about it.
14. Nashville Predators
The Predators have been sitting on the edge of a rebuild for a good 3 seasons now, and it seems like fans are just over it.
13. Pittsburgh Penguins
If Syd The Kyd remains in Pittsburgh, fans are always going to have something to cheer about. “We have Crosby” or “Crosby took us to three cups”. Okay, Pens fans we get it!
12. Ottawa Senators
The Senators have been saying they’re ready to compete again for years already and so have their fans. Every year, but they still haven’t sniffed the playoffs since the 2016-17 season.
11. New York Rangers
When any team plays at Madison Square Garden, you know their NHL fanbase are going to say something about them having the best-run franchise with the best players. Did we seriously expect anything else from Rangers fans?
10. Minnesota Wild
The Wild fans are already screaming that Faber is better than Bedard. We can’t imagine them being outside the top 10 anytime soon.
9. Edmonton Oilers
“Connor McDavid this, Connor McDavid that”. All these fans talk about is their number one guy. Even though he may be the best player on earth, we don’t hear much after April or May.
8. Vegas Golden Knights
Ever since Vegas became a franchise in the 2017-18 season, there has been no shortage of annoying fans everywhere. Especially with all their pre-game shows and now a Stanley Cup win under their belt.
7. Carolina Hurricanes
Hurricanes fans are just overly excited about their players. They brag about the fact that they have the better Aho and that they stole Kotkaniemi from the Canadiens. This is non-stop to, but stay faithful Canes fans.
6. New Jersey Devils
The Devils fan base is relentless when they aren’t successful. Take the “FIRE LINDY” chants at home games earlier this season. There’s a reason they’re so high on this list.
5. Colorado Avalanche
Ever since the Avs won their beloved Stanley Cup in 2022, their fans have been unbearable to be around. All they talk about is how Cale Makar is the best defender in the league and they may be right. We get it Avs fans.
4. Montreal Canadiens
Montreal has tons of history. With a player like “Rocket” Richard having an entire trophy named after him, it’s no wonder their NHL fanbase may think they’re on top of the world.
3. Philadelphia Flyers
Philidelphia’s fan base will get pretty unbearable especially when the team’s losing at home, just take the 2016 playoffs for example when fans started launching memorial wristbands onto the ice as the Flyers were losing to the Capitals.
2. Boston Bruins
How can you not be top 3 on this list when you stand behind a rat like Brad Marchand? Not only that, but they are constantly successful when everyone counts them out. Make no mistake, these fans have a lot to annoying to annoy you about.
1. Toronto Maple Leafs
The most annoying fanbase in the NHL, you’ll never hear the end of it from Leafs fans in an argument. They have a “comeback” for everything. Even though their last cup win was in 1967, every year is “their year.
