The ending of the Pittsburgh Penguins-Anaheim Ducks game on Monday night sums up the early portion season for Sidney Crosby and company all too well.
With the game tied 3-3 in the waning seconds, the Penguins had a 5-on-3 and the golden opportunity with the chance to win the game. But with Pittsburgh being on the wrong end of just about every bounce thus far, it obviously didn’t end in their favor.
Penguins star Evgeni Malkin just missed the go-ahead goal on a shot attempt. Teammate Erik Karlsson took the puck and tried feeding it to Malkin, but the pass attempt was broken up by Adam Henrique.
Mason McTavish, serving the first penalty, got out of the box just in time to receive Henrique’s pass. McTavish then went full speed down the ice and scored on Tristan Jarry in the waning seconds to win the game:
Game. Set. And Match.
The loss dropped the slumping Penguins to 3-6-0 to close out the month of October. They’ll now get four days off to regroup before visiting the San Jose Sharks on Saturday evening.
