On Friday afternoon, Matthew and Johnny Gaudreau were set to be the groomsmen for Devin Joyce, their sister’s fiance. However, tragedy struck the family when a drunk driver fatally struck the pair of brothers, and the couple decided to postpone the ceremony.
Johnny and Matthew were killed Thursday night after their bicycles were hit by a drunk driver, just a day before their sister was set to tie the know.
Both will be missed as Johnny was a star winger for the Columbus Blue Jackets, and Matthew enjoyed his own career in Hickey, having played at Boston College and the Bridgeport Islanders of the American Hockey League.
Both leave behind a legacy as great athletes and people. “Just devastating news for all of us connected with the Gaudreau family,” Jerry York, who coached both at Boston College, said according to the Associated Press. “Both Matty and Johnny were terrifically admired by all of us. Wonderful young guys, and they impressed a lot of us off the ice.”

Matthew And Johnny Gaudreau’s Alleged Killer Has Been Arrested
The man who fatally hit the Gaudreau brothers has reportedly been arrested. Sean M. Higgins, a 43-year-old man, has been charged with two counts of second-degree death by auto.
Higgins appeared in court virtually and plans to hire his own attorney for the case. “When I do hire an attorney… I have very limited contact with anyone now, I don’t have a phone, I can’t really reach anybody… how do I get that process started?” he had asked according to the New York Post.
