Avalanche center Nazem Kadri has been receiving threats from Blues fans since his collision with St. Louis goalie Jordan Binnington in Game 3 of their Round 2 series in the NHL playoffs.
It was an unintentional and unlucky play that knocked Binnington out for the rest of the series.
Kadri received some shots from Blues players, but he answered by delivering a memorable hat trick in a 6-3 Colorado win to help the Avs earn a 3-1 series lead.
Kadri’s wife Ashley shared some of the messages the family has been getting on Instagram and they are gutwrenching.
There was increased police presence both at the Avalanche’s team hotel in St. Louis and around the players’ entrance to the ice at Enterprise Center after local law enforcement was called in to investigate the threats made toward Kadri, according to ESPN.
“Unfortunately, I’ve been dealing with that a long time. That’s sad to say, but I’m getting good at putting in the rearview mirror. It’s a big deal. I try to act like it’s not. Just try to keep moving forward,” Kadri told TNT in a postgame interview. “I know those messages I got don’t reflect every single fan in St. Louis. But for those that hate, that one’s for them.”
