The family of NHL star Johnny Gaudreau and his brother suffered one of the most horrible tragedies this past weekend as Johnny and his brother Matt were tragically killed in a drunk driving incident while riding their bikes.
The Gaudreaus were supposed to have a wedding that weekend in New Jersey, as their sister Katie’s wedding was planned for the next day. Johnny and Matt were slated to be groomsmen for their sister’s wedding.
Their untimely passing has evoked many emotions in hockey and beyond, as the NHL, Flames, Blue Jackets, Boston University, and many more players and teams have released statements, videos, and pictures in the brothers’ memory.
However, the comment that everyone was waiting for and that was the hardest to read was Johnny’s and Matt’s wives’ reaction to their untimely passing. Recently, Matthew’s wife, Medline, shared a heartbreaking message on the internet.
Madeline Gaudreau Is “Blessed” To Have Been Married To Matthew Gaudreau
Finding out that the couple was expecting their first child, Tripp, in December only made the passing so much more devastating. In a post on social media, Madeline said, “I am so blessed you chose me to be your wife… to love me.”

She continued, “I know you’re watching down in just as much pain as I am looking up. I will keep going for you and our son. I love you, Matthew.” She kept her first post for Matt but also added another post about the brothers to her social media.
“It was always Matty and John,” she wrote, “They were each other’s biggest cheerleaders… I know they are still messing with each other up there and will continue looking over their families.” Medline dedicated the second half of the post to Johnny’s wife, Meredith.
“We will forever share this extreme heartbreak and terrible bond,” Madeline wrote. We will carry each other through every season, as the boys would do for each other.” She finished her post by writing that she loves Matt, John, Meredith, and all of their kids.
While the world continues to grieve these horrible losses, we send our condolences to both the family and friends of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau.
