John Tavares was selected first overall by the New York Islanders in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, where he spent nine seasons and served as captain for five seasons.
He was the man there…well, until he decided to sign with the Toronto Maple Leafs and break the hearts of millions of Islanders fans.
The second time around facing the team wasn’t as bad because the atmosphere couldn’t have been more sedate compared to the first time around.
That was until a video surfaced online showing Tavares in the penalty box getting berated, called a liar, snake, and a fake by an Islanders fan who sported a Tavares jersey with duct tape over the nameplate.
