Evander Kane is the subject of some startling allegations that could land him in some hot water.
The Edmonton Oilers winger is the subject of a social media post that paints a worrying picture, with Christina Marleau, the wife of former player Patrick Marleau, taking to Instagram to share some details pertaining to a shocking event.
According to Christina, she heard from her husband that Kane and a teammate were at Kane’s place when they took a certain “substance” that caused the teammate to run out of the house. He is said to have been missing for hours.
“My husband had heard that during the Covid pause on the season, father [Kane] had invited a teammate and his girlfriend over to their home,” she wrote. “The information we had heard was that both father and the teammate had taken some sort of substance, which resulted in the teammate running out of the house and missing for multiple hours throughout the night.”
The post has prompted some speculation about who that teammate could be. Christina added in her letter that she is aware that Ryan Merkley, a former San Jose Sharks player who was 20 at the time, did some babysitting for Kane, looking after his one-year-old daughter Kensington at least one time that she knows of.
“We also became aware of a young Sharks player, Ryan Merkley, was babysitting Kensington during at least one night in December of 2021. Although we have heard from other hockey families that this was not just a one time event. I believe Mr. Merkley is 20 years old.”

Neither player is with the Sharks anymore. Kane’s contract was terminated over COVID-19 violations while Merkley was traded to the Colorado Avalanche and now plays in the KHL.
As to whether Merkley is the teammate from the first episode is unknown.
Kane won a custody battle against his ex-wife Anna while they were going through a divorce in 2021.
