The Chicago Blackhawks are the talk of the sports world after they waived winger Corey Perry for some unknown reason, leading some to speculate that the rumors of him having an affair with the mother of rookie Connor Bedard might be true.
On Tuesday, the team announced it placed the 38-year-old on unconditional waivers. If Perry clears waivers, the team continued, it intends to “terminate his contract effective immediately.”
“After an internal investigation, the Chicago Blackhawks have determined that Corey Perry has engaged in conduct that is unacceptable,” the statement said, “and in violation of both the terms of his Standard Player’s Contract and the Blackhawks’ internal policies intended to promote professional and safe work environments.”
Perry traveled to Columbus one week ago which was one day before the Blackhawks’ road matchup Blue Jackets when an incident with a team employee occurred, according to ESPN. It’s unclear where the reported incident took place.
The team did not detail what allegedly happened.
“This has been a tough situation and I understand you wanted answers,” Chicago Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson said. “It was important that we took all the necessary steps before sharing more. I hope you can understand that I may not be able to answer everything today. But I am going to be as open and honest as I can be given the situation and out of respect for those involved.”
Davidson said the NHL and the NHLPA were aware of what was happening before noting it was “a team incident and so it was a team decision.”

Davidson declined to get into the details of his discussion with Perry after he was notified. He said he spoke to the players and stated they had no knowledge or any details of the incident.
Perry’s status with the Blackhawks had been in question since he last played on November 19th. Speculation around his absence for the next few games led to social media rumors that the incident involved Connor Bedard’s mother.
Davidson addressed those rumors in his opening statement. He said the incident did not involve any players or their family members.
“Anything that suggests otherwise or anyone that suggests otherwise is wildly inaccurate and, frankly, it’s disgusting,” Davidson said.
