The Chicago Blackhawks are placing forward Corey Perry on unconditional waivers for the purpose of a buyout. His contract will be terminated, effective immediately.
The Blackhawks released this statement on Tuesday afternoon. The team said it conducted an internal investigation into Perry’s conduct but did not provide any additional details.
“After an internal investigation, the Chicago Blackhawks have determined that Corey Perry has engaged in conduct that is unacceptable, and in violation of both the terms of his Standard Player’s Contract and the Blackhawks’ internal policies intended to promote professional and safe work environments.
“As such, Corey Perry has been placed on unconditional waivers. In the event Mr. Perry clears waivers, we intend to terminate his contract effective immediately.”
Perry was an unexpected healthy scratch in Columbus last Wednesday with the team calling it an “organizational decision.” The 38-year-old Ontario native and former league MVP with the Ducks had played in each of the Hawks’ first 16 games this season after an offseason trade from the Lightning.
This news comes down as rumors arose that Perry allegedly had sexual relations with Connor Bedard’s mother.
Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff squashed that rumor after Perry was placed on waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract.

He called it “disgusting.”
“Look, I don’t swear often on this show but I want to let you know that the stuff that’s been floating around about Corey Perry and one of his teammates’ mothers is f–king bulls–t,” Seravalli said during Tuesday’s edition of Daily Faceoff Live. “I think it’s ridiculous that this was something that was perpetuated on social media. It is so far from the truth and so unfair.”
The 38-year-old was tied for third on the Blackhawks in goals (four) and points (nine) prior to his absence. He signed a $2 million contract with Chicago for this season with $2 million in potential incentives.
