Connor McDavid’s fiancée, Lauren Kyle, had a heartwarming message for Edmonton Oilers fans following the team’s gut-wrenching Game 7 loss to the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Final.
The Oilers were oh-so-close to completing an improbable comeback, having forced a Game 7 after dropping the first three games of the series. But Florida just barely squeaked out a 2-1 victory over Connor McDavid and company to avoid a humiliating collapse and capture their first Stanley Cup.
On her Instagram story, Lauren Kyle offered a beautiful message for the Oilers and their fans after falling just short of hockey’s ultimate goal. Kyle’s post ended with words of encouragement for Edmonton as they try to build off an improbable run to the finals:
“We have the BEST fans in the league and no one deserves it more. We will bring it to Canada soon!!!”

As heartbreaking as the loss was, it’s simply remarkable that Connor McDavid and Edmonton got this far in the first place. They started out 3-9-1 under head coach Jay Woodcroft, prompting GM Ken Holland to fire him and bring in Kris Knoblauch as the interim HC.
After taking out the Los Angeles Kings in round one for the third straight year, the Oilers upset the Pacific Division-winning Vancouver Canucks before defeating the top-seeded Dallas Stars in the Western Conference Final.
McDavid had another season for the ages in 2023-24, tallying 32 goals and 100 assists. Incredibly, this marked the fourth straight season in which the Edmonton captain hit 100 points.
Connor McDavid & Oilers Can Learn From These Very Panthers
If the Oilers need inspiration on how to overcome heartbreak, they just need to look at the team that beat them in the Stanley Cup Final.
Florida was soundly defeated by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2023 Stanley Cup Final, losing in five games. Many doubted their ability to return to the big dance in a crowded Eastern Conference, but the Panthers returned and finished the job once and for all.
So why can’t the Oilers, with the best player on the planet, follow Florida’s footsteps and redeem themselves next yeaR?
