The Chicago Blackhawks have added two impact veterans, including a former Hart Trophy winner, in a trade with the Boston Bruins.
Per Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, the Blackhawks have acquired forwards in 2018 Hart Trophy winner Taylor Hall and Nick Foligno from the Bruins in exchange for defensemen Ian Mitchell and Alec Regula.
Foligno is a pending unrestricted free agent, while both Mitchell and Regula are pending RFAs.
In trading Hall, the Bruins clear a valuable $6 million in cap space. That gives them more room to try and re-sign pending UFAs in blueliner Dmitry Orlov and forward Tyler Bertuzzi, two impactful trade deadline pickups by GM Don Sweeney.
For the Blackhawks, they’re getting at least Hall (and maybe Foligno) to help soon-to-be new franchise face Connor Bedard. The Hawks are presumably going to take the generational talent first overall in Wednesday’s NHL Draft.
Hall, the first overall pick of the 2010 NHL Draft, has been a model of consistency since breaking into the league. He’s a seven-time 20-goal scorer with eight seasons of 50-plus points under his belt.

The Blackhawks will be Hall’s sixth NHL team. He previously played for the Edmonton Oilers (2010-11 to 2015-16), New Jersey Devils (2016-17 to 2018-19), Arizona Coyotes (35 games in 2019-20), Buffalo Sabres (37 games in 2020-21) and the Bruins (2020-21 to 2022-23).
For his career, Hall has 264 goals and 693 points in 822 games.
