Fans on social media believe a Carolina Hurricanes fan may have snorted some powder during the quadruple-overtime showdown against the Florida Panthers on Thursday night.
The Panthers stuck it out against the night’s opponents with a 3-2 scoreline after what turned out to be a historic Game 1, with Matthew Tkachuk scoring the winner with 12.7 seconds left in the fourth overtime.
The game, which was the sixth-longest in NHL history, needed 79 minutes and 47 seconds of overtime in order to be settled.
The contest could have ended in the first overtime period when the Panthers’ Ryan Lomberg scored 2:35 minutes deep, but the goal was chalked off because of goaltender interference. It ended up needing three more overtimes, and it appears a Hurricanes fan needed a boost to stay up as they were seen breaking out a mini-package.
While the contents were likely smelling salts, Twitter users have suggested that it could have been cocaine.

The Panthers were actually fortunate to have the game go into overtime. While they were better in the first period, the Hurricanes leveled things out in the second and took over the third.
They did tie on a power play, however, the Hurricanes registered 21 shots to their four, 13 of which were on target.
The series returns for its second game this Saturday at 8:00 PM ET in Carolina.
