Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price is one of the greatest goalies of his generation, due largely to his ability to perform under pressure.
But when it came to announcing the Canadiens’ No. 5 overall draft selection in Wednesday’s NHL Draft? Let’s just say the future Hall of Famer cracked under pressure.
As you can see in the clip below, Price got through the first name of Montreal’s pick in Austrian defenseman David Reinbacher. Price uttered Reinbacher’s first name before completely forgetting the second name, prompting GM Kent Hughes to save the day:
If it makes Price feel better, he’s not the first person to completely forget a team’s selection at the NHL draft stage. Philadelphia Flyers’ legend Bobby Clarke infamously forgot Claude Giroux’s name when the club was prepared to draft the star forward back in 2006:
The 6-foot-2 Reinbacher plays for the Kloten HC team in the Swiss-A League. In 2022-23, Reinbacher tallied three goals and 2022 points in 46 games.

The soon-to-be 36-year-old Price missed the entire 2022-23 season with a knee injury, and he’s highly unlikely to play again. If his career is indeed over, Price will walk away with 361 career wins, 49 shutouts, one Hart Trophy, one Vezina Trophy and a 2014 Olympic gold medal won with Team Canada.
