Vancouver Canucks winger Brock Boeser has been widely mentioned in trade rumors for several years now.
If there’s a golden window of opportunity for GM Patrik Allvin to trade Boeser, it’s between now and next summer. The 26-year-old is only under contract through the 2024-25 season, and teams will be willing to give up more for Boeser if they have at least a full year of team control as opposed to acquiring him as a 2025 trade deadline rental.
A consistent 20-goal and 50-point threat like Boeser would attract plenty of interest on the open market. The Canucks’ constant refusal to rebuild suggests that they’d want a player to help them win now in return for Boeser.
The Canucks’ longtime western Canadian rivals, the Winnipeg Jets, certainly make perfect sense as a landing spot for the Burnsville, Minnesota native.
Winnipeg has plenty of depth on the back end, whereas the Canucks need another top-four defenseman to complement the top pairing of Quinn Hughes and Filip Hronek. This is where the Jets come into play.
The Canucks could offer Boeser to Winnipeg in exchange for veteran blueliner Neal Pionk, who’s also only under contract through 2024-25.

Winnipeg lost valuable scoring depth with the offseason departures of Blake Wheeler and Pierre-Luc Dubois. Adding a sniper like Boeser to a top-six led by Mark Scheifele, Gabe Vilardi, Nikolaj Ehlers and Kyle Connor would make the Jets’ offense even more prolific.
As for the Canucks, a top-four of Hughes, Hronek, Pionk and Tyler Myers would be as good as just about any other in the Western Conference. The Canucks have enough scorers but require more defensive depth. Winnipeg has enough defensive depth but need more scorers.
Hence, a Boeser-for-Pionk swap makes too much sense and would be a win-win for both sides.
