The Boston Bruins are set to be without a star winger for an unknown period of time as Milan Lucic has been sent on an indefinite leave of absence following an arrest for a recent domestic incident.
WCVB-TV is reporting that the 35-year-old was taken into custody early Saturday morning and has since been charged with the assault and battery of a family member. He will be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on Monday.
“The organization takes these matters very seriously, and we will work with the Lucic family to provide any support and assistance they may need,” the Bruins said in a statement on Saturday. “We will have no further comment at this time.”
“As an organization it’s something we take extremely seriously,” Montgomery said, per the Boston Globe. “[Lucic] is taking a leave of absence from the team right now and we support the Lucic family, and we will continue to provide support and help for the Lucic family and out of respect for their privacy, that’s all I’m going to comment on the details right now.”
Lucic, 35, is in his 17th professional season and has played close to 1,200 games for the Bruins, Kings, Oilers and Flames.
He helped Boston win the Stanley Cup in 2011 before leaving in 2015 and returning eight years later.
