Alex Laferriere is well supported by his family.
The 2023-24 NHL season kicked off this week and last night was the home opener for the Los Angeles Kings. It didn’t take long for rookie Alex Laferriere to make an impression in his NHL debut.
The Kings hosted the Colorado Avalanche as the home team found themselves down 3-1 halfway through the second period. With nine minutes left in the frame, Kings rookie Alex Laferriere got into a fight as he and Logan O’Conner squared up for a brawl.
Laferriere was drafted in 2020 but last night was his NHL debut and the cameras panned to his family as he fought for the first time on professional ice.
They were not at all disturbed as they could be seen cheering.
The chaotic sequence in the second period began when the Kings’ Pierre-Luc Dubois stuck out his knee to take out Colorado’s Fredrik Olofsson which drew a tripping penalty.

Following the collision, a number of players from both teams came together, and eventually, Laferriere got into his team’s first fight of the year.
Both players got in a few big punches, but the rookie landed a few more and then slammed down O’Connor to the ice to end the scuffle.
As Laferriere headed to the penalty box, he got a huge ovation from his family inside Crypto.com Arena.
